WhatsApp Blocks Over 66 Lakh Unlawful Accounts in India
In accordance with the new IT Rules 2021, WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, took action to ban a staggering number of over 6.6 million problematic accounts in India during the month of June.
Between June 1 and 30, “6,611,700 WhatsApp accounts were banned and 2,434,200 of those accounts were proactively blocked before users reported it,” WhatsApp said in its monthly compliance report on Wednesday.
The most popular messaging platform, which has more than 500 million users in the country, again received a record 7,893 complaints in the country in June, with 337 “actions”.
“Accounts Actioned” means reports where WhatsApp took corrective action based on the report, and taking action means either banning the account or reinstating a previously banned account as a result.
“This user safety report includes information on user complaints received and the corresponding actions taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive measures to combat abuse on our platform,” according to the company.
In addition, the company mentioned that from 1.6.-30.6. orders received were 1 and orders filled were also 1.
