AI to Enhance WhatsApp Sticker Functionality
WhatsApp, the messaging app owned by Meta, is introducing a beta update that includes stickers generated by artificial intelligence (AI). Currently in the testing phase, the feature is only accessible to a limited number of users who will assess its functionality and identify any potential issues. This new capability allows users to generate stickers by providing text-based descriptions, offering them the opportunity to create personalized and distinctive stickers. This update has the potential to significantly enhance the user experience and revolutionize the way stickers are created on WhatsApp. Let’s delve into the details of this latest WhatsApp stickers update.
New WhatsApp update
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is rolling out a new beta update that will allow the use and creation of AI-generated stickers. The report shared a screenshot of the creation of the AI sticker. A different “create” button appeared on the sticker tab. The user is asked to provide a description for the label. WhatsApp then offers a collection of AI-generated stickers depending on the given description, and the user can choose which sticker to share.
Android Police reports that the company did not disclose which generative AI model will be used in the new feature. The report added that Meta uses secure technology, but did not specify what powers the AI sticker feature. According to a Verge report, the feature works like Midjoureny or OpenAI’s DALL-E models, where users create personal images.
In addition, the application also reports if harmful or inappropriate AI-generated stickers are created. However, it was not stated what actions will be taken. WABetaInfo also reports that users can see if a sticker was created using Meta AI technology, which means the sticker has a watermark.
The company is said to be bringing the update to improve user experience and personalization with AI stickers that are able to express users’ distinct emotions, expressions or interests.
Note that the feature is in beta testing and is only available to limited users. We hope the company will soon share more about the feature and what Meta technology is used to power the app’s AI sticker feature.
