Google Introduces AI-Powered Chrome Feature to Automatically Summarize Web Pages

Google has announced an update to its AI-powered Search Generative Experience (SGE) with new features to help you learn and understand information online. These updates can help you understand complex concepts, improve coding skills, and find details on complex topics.

“We launched our artificial intelligence generative search experience (SGE) less than three months ago, and we’re encouraged that the early feedback has been positive. Since our initial launch, we’ve been making constant improvements to make the user experience even more useful. In fact, we recently announced updates to include more images and videos in reviews , improvements to link display and more,” the US tech giant said in a blog post.

According to Google, when you’re researching something new or looking for an explanation of a concept, you might come across a term you don’t understand or maybe you just want more information.

To make this easier, Google will soon introduce improvements to its AI-generated answers to various questions related to science, economics, history, and other topics or questions. With this update, you can hover over specific words to preview definitions and see related charts or images.

Chrome’s Google Search app now has a beta option to summarize a long article. Chrome is capable of providing “key points” of a web page, as well as an “Explore Page” section with questions and answers about the content.

Google said the new “SGE while browsing” feature is meant to help people “engage more deeply” with creators’ long-running content. It shows the highlights of articles that are freely available online and does not summarize paywalled articles.

Currently, the new AI functionality is available in Chrome on iOS and Android devices. Google plans to expand its availability to desktops in the “coming days.”

Soon, Google also plans to improve the answers generated by artificial intelligence. This allows users to hover over words to view definitions and related charts or images.
