Pixel 8 Series Could Follow Apple’s Model With Multiple Variants This Year – Google
Google Pixel 8 phones may copy Apple’s iPhone 14 strategy and come without physical SIM slots in some markets this year. So this basically means that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro could include an eSIM option, which is likely to be limited to markets like the US, which Apple has done with the iPhone 14 series last year.
Google has offered one eSIM option for Pixel users for the past year, but removing the physical SIM slot entirely is a bold move that will only appeal to some people.
The tipster says renders of the Pixel 8 phones are missing a SIM card slot, suggesting the change is imminent but unlikely to happen in all markets where Google sells its Pixel devices, including India, where it launched the Pixel 7 Premium . models last year.
The eSIM card has gradually become a popular technology option for consumers, allowing them to change their SIM profile digitally without the hassle of a physical SIM card. However, eSIM can be complicated for people when they travel, and regularly removing the eSIM card from the device can be a challenge, especially if carriers are not friendly about the process.
If Google only makes eSIM-based Pixel 8 series phones, it could also show once again that Apple is at the forefront of another field that others have chosen to copy. The eSIM is unlikely to be the only change with the Pixel 8 series this year.
A recently leaked video suggested that the Pixel 8 will include an audio eraser tool for videos, which could be part of a new-look Pixel camera interface where photos and videos could have an equal focus. The new Pixel 8 series could be announced in October, which is the usual timeline for Google to launch new phones.
Google is expected to bring a third-generation Tensor chip to the Pixel phones, which will hopefully be better with power management. The Pixel 8 Pro could have a thermometer-like feature placed next to the rear cameras. Android 14 could be released publicly in the Pixel 8 range.
