AI can now figure out if you’re faking an illness for a bunk office
Artificial intelligence makes sure you don’t work anymore, because the technology is now ready to tell if you’re faking your illness by reading your voice. That’s right, everything good in AI has its downsides, and this new feature was developed to make sure people don’t get sick, but reading that means you can’t lie at work.
The system was developed to help people detect if they have a cold by analyzing your voice patterns.
The system comes via researchers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, Gujarat, according to a report in The Economist. The team was able to analyze the vocal patterns of about 630 people, and the AI algorithm was able to detect a cold in 111.
You could say that AI using voice analysis is nothing new, but what is unique about this technique is that the machine learning was fed data based on harmonics, called the rhythm of the voice, when a person speaks.
And because the AI was trained to recognize speech, it could easily distinguish between people who actually had the flu and those who were faking it. Now imagine if offices use this system, it would be hard for people to leave the office, especially using the classic “I’m sick, *cough cough* excuse.
To be fair, the researchers had a noble idea behind this study, which is to help people detect if they have a fever without going to the doctor. But another Business Insider report hints that such a tool could become just as useful for businesses as well.
ChatGPT has to be the biggest revolution in the AI space this year, but every day we see new AI-based apps that aim to solve problems, although there are some chinks in the armor that definitely require serious monitoring.
