Amazon’s Giant Leap: Fire TV Devices to Receive New Operating System!
Amazon is said to be developing its own operating system, signaling a departure from its current reliance on Google’s Android system. This move means that future Amazon devices, including TVs, smart displays, and other smart products, could feature a new user interface, improved performance, and an overall different experience. Stay tuned to see what Amazon has in store for next year.
Amazon’s own operating system
According to a report from LowPass, Amazon is rumored to be rolling out an in-house operating system for Fire TVs and other devices, which means it could ditch Google’s Android services entirely. Amazon is also rumored to be hiring for the initiative. The new Amazon operating system is called “Vega” and has already been tested on its Fire TVs.
The reason for the move was found to be that Android smart TVs contain several unnecessary codes that are not required for the functionality of the device. Amazon’s Fire OS is constantly dependent on the Android Open Source Project, which has shown lag on their devices. Now the Vega operating system can solve these problems and improve the functionality of Amazon’s products.
Amazon’s new operating system is expected to be based on Linux and focus more on a web-based application model. The application framework is said to be React Native. This step allows developers to use the operating system on different platforms and devices. As Amazon is getting into a wide range of smart devices, this decision could give them a stronger edge over their products. In addition, the new operating system can also work on older Amazon devices that currently run on Android.
Amazon Fire TV with Vega OS may soon be available in the market sometime in 2024. Note that Amazon has not made any announcement about the operating system inside. If the claims turn out to be true, we may soon hear from the company soon.
