Amazon Kindle 2022 review: A compact e-reader to get you started
Amazon continues to market Kindle e-readers, focusing on different price segments. You have the regular Kindle, the Paperwhite, and a bunch of other premium Kindle versions. Here we take a look at the entry-level Kindle e-reader that was released last year with numerous updates and one very important change.
The basic Kindle is aimed at people who are just starting their journey with e-books and who don’t want to waste an e-reader until they are sure of using it. The Kindle 2022 e-reader is priced at Rs 9,999, which may not seem like a bargain, but this is how the technology space has evolved in recent years. We used the e-reader for a few weeks and here is our review.
Amazon Kindle 2022 Review: What’s Cool?
The new Kindle 2022 version is lighter than its predecessor and its tightness is usually felt in the hand. Holding both Kindle versions side by side doesn’t really tell the difference. But when you hold the new version in your hand, you’ll notice that it’s less wide than the 10th generation Kindle.
The screen size remains the same at 6 inches, but the screen resolution is now the same as the premium versions with a pixel density of 330 ppi, making it easier to read the four built-in LEDs below the screen.
It also helps that the panel has an anti-glare coating to prevent glare from falling into your eyes.
The storage space of the new Kindle 2022 has increased, and you now get 16 GB of space to store all your e-books on the device. Performance is also faster than the 10th generation version, which is usually expected from an updated device. You will find that swiping the screen is smooth and the touch reacts to read your actions. You can’t review a Kindle without talking about the software that comes with it.
Amazon uses a new user interface that was first introduced in 2021. Amazon has divided the main screen space into Home and Library sections. The company has tried to personalize the segment and give you recommendations. You can view books in grid, list or collection order. You also have the option of connecting the Kindle 2022 to headphones if you want the e-reader to read you a book.
And finally, how long does the Kindle last on a single charge? Amazon requires 6 weeks of backup if you use it for 30 minutes daily. But the biggest plus is that the Kindle 2022 has USB C for charging, which means you can use your smartphone cable to charge the e-reader, and you don’t need to carry a separate charger for your Kindle.
Amazon Kindle 2022 Review: What’s Not So Cool?
While the changes are quite minimal, the Kindle 2022 still has plenty of thick bezels that could be eye-catching in 2023. The performance helps, but you’ll still notice that the device lacks the smoothness of premium Kindle variants. means that Amazon is leaving the option for people to upgrade.
The Kindle Paperwhite version has 17 LEDs that give you good visibility in all conditions and other color modes. In Kindle 2022 you only have 4 LEDs and the ability to change modes is complicated and hidden in the settings. You also don’t get the Kindle 2022 with any IP rating, which honestly isn’t surprising.
The software also has some quirks, the general interface is easy, but the option to go to Home is quite rigid.
Amazon Kindle 2022 Review: Should You Buy?
The new Kindle 2022 e-reader is an interesting option for buyers. Usually, the new generation version does not differ much from its predecessor, but in this case, we can easily say that the 11th generation Kindle 2022 is worth buying even for those who use the 10th generation Kindle.
Performance, compact form, extra storage and USB C for charging are good enough reasons to buy the Kindle 2022, even though it costs Rs 9,999, has bezels and no IP rating.
