Apple’s AI tools prepared for release alongside iOS 18; potential announcement expected during CES 2024

Apple is gearing up for a significant year in 2024 as it aims to attract customers by incorporating AI features into its products. This move is crucial, especially with the anticipated release of the Samsung Galaxy S24. Despite lagging behind its competitors in terms of AI integration, Apple is actively working to catch up. The upcoming iOS 18 update will introduce new generative AI tools and features to iPhones, similar to what Samsung and Google Pixel are offering. While there were initial rumors about Siri receiving generative AI capabilities, Apple seems to have something even more substantial planned, which will be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

Apple’s generative AI tools and iOS 18

According to a Power On newsletter report by Mark Gurman, Apple is currently testing creative AI tools and features that will be introduced with the iOS 18 update. It is rumored that Apple may unveil various AI tools at the WWDC event, which is expected to take place in June. While there was talk of a revamped version of Siri, Gurman said Apple has been testing their big language model called “Ajax” since early 2023.

Generative AI tools are rumored to include productivity software features, auto-completion or generation, and more. Gurman said: “It’s also looking to integrate AI into services like Apple Music, where the company wants to use the technology to better automate the creation of playlists. And Apple is planning a major overhaul of its digital assistant, Siri.

In addition, Apple may introduce a new version of Xcode and other development tools for developers to facilitate code completion. It’s also been reported that a new AI-based system to help AppleCare employees troubleshoot customer queries is in the works. That’s why we might see a lot of AI-based changes in a future update or especially in the iPhone 16. However, Gurman also said that Apple’s creative AI initiative may take until 2025 to fully integrate AI-powered tools and features into its devices. That’s why Apple will compete with other brands on the market in the coming months.

CES 2024

Gurman has also said that Apple may try to get some much-needed attention at the upcoming CES 2024 event. While the company won’t actually be attending the event, Gurman expects “…announcements related to mixed reality headsets and artificial intelligence. Apple , Google and others are also sending engineers to the event to look for next-generation components and new partnerships.” This likely refers to the announcement of the Apple Vision Pro.
