Apple and Air India May Be Exploring Potential Partnership
During a visit to Apple’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson revealed that Apple and Tata-backed Air India are considering a collaboration to jointly explore potential opportunities.
“Dr. Satya Ramaswamy and I, along with some of our colleagues, spent time at Apple’s headquarters in Palo Alto to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration, and at Stanford University to discuss cutting-edge thinking in areas such as inventory and pricing optimization, improved engine and emissions performance, and other cutting-edge topics,” Air’s Campbell India Wilson said.
While the nature of Air India’s collaboration with Apple is unclear, it is undeniable that Apple is gradually increasing its focus on India. Two flagship Apple Stores have already opened in the country, and more may be on the way. In addition, India is expected to account for 18 percent of Apple’s global iPhone production by 2025 — due to growing interest — and Apple’s reduced dependence on China for its manufacturing needs.
According to a report by Financial Express, sources say Air India and Apple are in talks to collaborate on a project that would use Apple technology to improve passenger experience and comfort. The report also notes that in May, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson announced that the airline would use Apple’s flight planning software for its pilots.
Air India is also one of Apple’s biggest customers for its iPad range, so the Indian airline may be looking to better integrate it into its in-flight systems.
