Apple could launch iPhone 15 models made in India this year
Apple is planning its life outside of China, and India will be one of the most important hubs for its production in the future. But since the company already manufactures iPhones in the country, a new report this week suggests that Apple could be manufacturing iPhone 15 models in India as part of the launch.
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple will ship some iPhone 15 models from India after it launches later this year. It mentions that the vanilla iPhone 15 cases are made in India, which means the entire unit is assembled in the country before shipping.
The news of the iPhone 15 being made in India hardly comes as a surprise as the company has also manufactured previous vanilla iPhone variants here. However, the report is quick to point out that while Apple sees India and Vietnam as ideal manufacturing options for China, the company will continue to manufacture the iPhone 15 Plus and Pro models in China for at least the next few years.
But the fact that Apple has already started manufacturing the upcoming iPhone model in India shows that the company is gradually building its supply chain with resources that match its quality standards. However, Apple is still not convinced about the quality control needed to manufacture the iPhone 15 Pro in India.
Either way, Apple is surely building its foundation to grow further in the Indian market. The company will open its first retail stores in the country this month and the first one in Mumbai will see Tim Cook visit the country and meet the fanboys.
This year’s iPhone line-up promises to be exciting, not only due to hardware upgrades, but also Apple’s need to FINALLY bring USB C ports to the iPhone for charging (thanks to EU lawmakers). Pro models could see a big jump in camera specs, while we should see four models like in recent years.
