Apple Music Launches Discovery Station to Introduce Listeners to New Music
Apple has discreetly introduced a fresh addition to its music streaming service that has the potential to broaden your playlists and discover new artists. Known as “Discovery Station,” this personalized radio station selects songs from Apple Music’s collection that it believes will resonate with you. Unlike Spotify, which offers numerous algorithmic recommendations through its playlists, Apple’s music service has not fully embraced this approach, as highlighted by Apple Insider.
An Apple spokesperson told us that Discovery Station will only play music you haven’t played on the service before, both from artists you know and potentially unknown artists it thinks you’ll like. And since its main purpose is to help you discover new music, it never plays the same song twice and keeps playing until you stop. Like other playlists that use algorithms to recommend songs, Discovery Station bases its suggestions on your activity and constantly changes as your tastes evolve.
The feature is now available worldwide. If you’re already a subscriber, you can access it by going to your Listen Now page and looking at the Stations for You section. If you don’t have a subscription, it costs at least $5 a month in the US for an audio-only package, or at least $11 a month to access Apple Music’s video programming and other features like lossless audio. and Dolby Atmos.
