Create Your Own AI Companion on Instagram Coming Soon
Instagram, the popular photo and video sharing platform owned by Meta, is said to be testing a new feature called “AI friend”. This feature allows users to create a personalized imaginary friend powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
Noted leaker Alessandro Paluzzi took to screenshots shared by microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to say, “#Instagram is working on the ability to be an #AI friend.”

According to Paluzzi, users would be able to chat with the AI “to answer questions, discuss potential challenges, brainstorm ideas and more.
Based on the provided screenshots, users can customize the characteristics of their AI friend, such as gender (female, male or non-binary) and age (young, adult or elderly). Additionally, users can edit elements such as ethnicity, personality traits, and interests.
You can further customize your AI friend by choosing their interests, which inform their personality and the nature of their conversations. Options include animals, career, education, entertainment, music, nature and more. Once these customizations are made, the Meta-owned app allows users to name their AI friends and choose avatars for them.
According to the screenshots, users can name their AI friends. You will then be directed to a chat window where you can click a button to start a conversation with the AI.
