Discover New Connections: WhatsApp Introduces Search By Username!

WhatsApp, the instant messaging application owned by Meta, is reportedly developing a feature that will enable searching for users based on their username. This feature allows users to interact with others using a separate identifier, reducing reliance on phone numbers.

“Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.25.19 update available on the Google Play Store, we found that WhatsApp is developing further improvements to this feature for a future update of the app,” WABetaInfo reported.

According to the report, the search bar allows users to search for other users using their username, which streamlines the connection process and improves privacy by eliminating the need to share personal phone numbers. The report mentioned that setting up a username is completely optional and users always have control over this feature as they can delete their current username at any time.

It also suggested that WhatsApp offers users a strong layer of privacy as they can search for others using a username.

Users can contact others without necessarily revealing their phone number. This is especially useful for those who want to maintain anonymity or control their personal information.

“Furthermore, searching for users by username simply connects with friends, family or other people because it removes the need to explicitly request and exchange phone numbers. Users simply share their username, making it easier for others to find and connect with them in the app,” WABetaInfo said.

The feature to search users by username is under development and will be available in a future update of the app, it added.

In related news, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has rolled out a secret code feature for Chat Lock on WhatsApp, increasing the privacy of millions of users to protect sensitive conversations on the platform.

Once generated, the code can be used to hide locked conversations so that they only appear when typed into the search bar.
