Elon Musk Announces Twitter Will Pay Verified Users for Ads in Replies
According to Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, verified content creators will soon receive payment for ads in their replies, with an initial payment block of approximately $5 million.
“Please note, the creator must be verified and only ads shown to verified users will count,” Musk, the billionaire who bought Twitter last October, said in a tweet.
Since Tesla CEO Musk bought Twitter, the platform has struggled to retain advertisers who have been wary of placing their ads after the company laid off thousands of workers.
The move comes as Twitter’s newly named CEO Linda Iaccarino, an NBCUniversal advertising veteran, is set to take over the social media helm.
Musk said in March that the messaging service makes about 5 or 6 cents an hour for users’ attention and could raise that to 15 cents or more with ads that are more relevant and timely.
