Generative AI Feature on YouTube Music Enables Users to Design Custom Playlist Art
Google has been gradually adding generative AI to its Workspace apps, and now we’re seeing AI-powered features on YouTube as well. It’s clear that Google’s AI ambitions aren’t limited to Workspace, but extend to YouTube Music with a new AI-generated playlist cover art feature.
Notably, this AI feature comes after YouTube introduced generative AI features like the Dream Screen for YouTube Shorts and the YouTube AI Music Incubator. The new playlist art feature is currently only available to English-speaking users in the US and is in the “experimental” category.
This generative AI-powered feature allows users to create playlist images from a variety of visual themes and options to create custom cover images for personalized playlists. YouTube notes that this can be especially useful for users who have trouble finding playlist covers for, say, a 90s R&B selection or something else.
This feature is only available in the US, but in an official blog post, YouTube notes that users should “stay tuned” for availability in other regions and languages worldwide. Until today, YouTube automatically chose the cover image for the playlist, but this makes things more visually appealing.
In addition to this feature, YouTube also revealed that it is rolling out a new feature to the Home tab that “helps you quickly explore and listen to recurring songs and artists.” To use this, users need to open the YouTube Music app, look directly at the top of the Home tab, and you’ll find your most-listened-to music content. This feature is currently unavailable, and YouTube notes that it will be available “in the coming months.”
