Google to Discontinue Album Archive in One Month
The Album Archive, a product from Google, is the latest to be discontinued without user input. This tool was useful for storing past conversations, videos, and pictures.
Google used to have a lot of popular apps, and Album Archive was the best tool for keeping old data. However, starting July 19th, Google will remove the content available through the album library, which means it’s time to start exporting your data and backing it up somewhere else.
Google will inform users of the news this week via email and advise them to use other resources to back up their data. Closing the album vault affects content such as Hangouts, pre-2018 Gmail wallpapers, album comments, and more.
Google is giving these users a chance to download the data before it is deleted next month. A copy of the album archive information can be downloaded using Google Takeout. You can either get a download link for the data or transfer the content to other cloud services, such as Google Drive, Microsoft’s OneDrive or Dropbox.
You can find out more about album archive data on its support page, which has all the steps to download a copy of the data. That being said, Google seems to be suggesting that even after July 19th, some of that data will be available through other Google apps like Chat, Google Photos, and their default Google Account.
It will be interesting to see how many users are willing to take the plunge. In fact, we’re more eager to see if people even recognize this service and can download a copy of their old chats just for old time’s sake.
