Google introduces a convenient way to unsubscribe from emails on Gmail, addressing frustration with spam.
One of the most annoying parts of our digital lives is having a cluttered inbox because you receive hundreds of emails every day. These emails just keep piling up and it’s often hard to find the unsubscribe button, which is usually buried at the bottom of the email.
Fortunately, Google has solved this problem for Gmail users. Gmail now allows users to unsubscribe from unwanted emails by hovering over emails in an email on the web. The best part is that users don’t even have to open emails to unsubscribe. This feature works because Gmail sends an HTTP request or email to the sender asking them to remove the user’s email address from their mailing list.
For Android and iOS users, the unsubscribe option now appears as soon as you open the email, so there is no need to scroll through several steps in the three-dot menu.
Google is taking steps to protect legitimate senders from being flagged as spam by users
Although it is annoying for users to receive multiple messages from the sources they subscribe to, some people mark these messages as spam even though they are from legitimate senders. This can have a negative impact on the sender’s reputation. To solve this problem, Google now allows users to choose whether to unsubscribe or report a message as spam.
When will these features become available?
Google notes that these features are already rolling out to Gmail users on the web and on iOS, Google Workspace accounts, and Android devices. We’ve tested these features ourselves and can confirm that they’re available to us in Gmail on the web, as well as in the iOS and Android apps.
