Graysky App to Debut on iOS and Android with Innovative Features from Bluesky

Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform that was formerly known as Twitter, is preparing to introduce its initial third-party application. The platform, which remains exclusive to invited users, boasts a user base of over 1.5 million and can be accessed via its web client or iOS and Android applications. However, the social network led by Jack Dorsey is still in a private testing phase, and its official application lacks certain features that could enhance the platform’s enjoyment. In line with its decentralized approach, Bluesky has extended its API to developers interested in creating their own third-party applications, which can offer fresh and improved features as well as a distinct user interface. While numerous applications are currently being developed and tested, Graysky has become the first third-party Bluesky application to be made available on the App Store.

According to a TechCrunch report, Graysky is currently available for pre-order on the App Store and has a release date of October 21st. The application is also expected to be published in the Play Store. Like all third-party apps, it also offers several new features. It promises a new layout that prioritizes feed, support for GIFs, embedded translation, a quick view likes tab on people’s profiles for easy viewing, hashtags, and more.

Graysky will be the first third-party app for Bluesky

According to TechCrunch, Graysky was built by London-based software engineer Samuel Newman, who goes by @mozzius.dev at Bluesky. Calling Bluesky “a better Twitter,” Newman explained that he wanted to bring new features to the platform that Bluesky didn’t have support for, which became his primary motivation behind Graysky. That’s why he focused on showing likes on people’s profiles and supporting GIFs produced by Tenor.

To further differentiate it from Bluesky, it also has an interface that opens directly to feeds instead of your own profile. The official app first takes you to your own home timeline, also called Skyline. Because the platform is decentralized, you can also choose from all the different feeds that others have built from the search interface.

If you’re on iOS, you can pre-order it and get the app on October 21st, and if you’re on Android, wait a little longer as it’s expected to arrive there pretty soon as well.
