IIIT Hyderabad introduces online Master’s degree in IT on Coursera
IIIT Hyderabad, known for its research-focused educational programs, will launch its Online Master of Science in Information Technology (eMSIT) on Coursera, a leading online learning platform. This is the first time an Indian university has introduced a master’s degree program on Coursera. The eMSIT program aims to incorporate industry micro-credentials, allowing students to advance based on their previous learning achievements.
An enriched learning experience
Raghav Gupta, Managing Director, India and Asia Pacific, Coursera, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are honored to partner with IIIT Hyderabad to bring students the benefits of the university’s renowned high-quality and affordable education. In India and beyond.”
eMSIT’s curriculum covers hands-on projects and specializations in data science, full-stack development, and machine learning. In addition, students get to learn about artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT and Copilot. To enhance the learning experience, students have access to experienced teaching assistants and regular sessions by industry professionals.
Professor P.J. Narayanan, Director, IIIT Hyderabad, highlighted the program’s innovative ‘learning by doing’ framework and stated, “We are excited to expand access to MSIT’s innovative, interdisciplinary learning experience. The program’s innovative ‘learning by doing’ framework will help new generations of students successfully launch or advance their careers in IT and computer science.
Construction of grooves in demanding fields
According to NASSCOM, the goal of the eMSIT program is to meet the growing demand for technology professionals in India, and according to projections, around 95,000 technology professionals will be needed by 2026. Graduates of the program are well prepared for lucrative careers in fields such as finance, healthcare, and software development, with access to online jobs and networking.

The program offers flexibility, so students can learn anytime, anywhere. The application process is inclusive and welcomes students from different backgrounds. Prospective students require a four-year undergraduate (UG) degree with a STEM background or equivalent qualification to apply. The application for the spring 2024 cohort, which starts on July 22, 2024, is currently open.
