Indian Government Issues Alert to Android Users: Take Steps to Secure Your Devices!

The Indian government has issued a major security warning to Android users in the country, asking them to update their phones immediately. The warning comes through India’s Computer Emergency Response Team, or CERT-In, the government’s cyber security agency. The warning message talks about vulnerabilities in the latest phones that allow hackers to easily steal data from those phones.

Worryingly, all popular Android versions are vulnerable, which means that if you have phones running Android 11, 12, 12L or the latest version 13, you are at risk of a security issue and its potential impact.

Android is used by more than 95 percent of smartphone users in India, making this new vulnerability a major concern for mobile phone manufacturers and the government. While the issue definitely affects Android users, CERT-In clearly says it has more to do with flaws in the Google Play system and Qualcomm components.

Google is the main source that identified the vulnerabilities and it is now imperative that both companies release a security patch to fix the issue as soon as possible. And any information about the security problem seems to help Google fix it quickly.

The company has recently released the September 2023 update that protects the device from vulnerabilities affecting Android users.

Google has also urged all Android phone manufacturers to deploy a new update that contains a certain security risk. And it goes without saying that Android users should check their brands for the latest Android update, which may take a few days to reach your region.

How to install a new security update on your Android phone

– Go to phone settings

– Scroll down to System Update

– Click Check for Updates

– Install the new version if it pops up

– Protect your phone by restarting your phone

Make sure your phone has enough battery (at least 40 percent) before trying to install a new security update. Google also advises users not to install apps from third-party app stores and to avoid clicking on emails and links from unknown senders.
