Instagram is experimenting with a fresh method to share private content exclusively with close friends.
Instagram wants to take privacy to a deeper level, and for that the platform is testing a new feature called Flipside. Instagram understands that most people want to create two accounts on the platform, allowing a different profile for work and friends. With Flipside, they can do it from one account.
This second profile allows you to keep it private to your special and close friends, and only they can see the content posted on Flipside. The Meta-owned social app understands that people are looking for more privacy from the public, especially when their lives come under the radar for various reasons.
Flipside helps them stand out and share more personal content with people they know well. Everyone on Flipside can have a different profile picture, name, and even bio, allowing them to be less polished than their public account. You also have the power to delete everything from this private profile and start over.
Instagram is currently testing the feature with a small group of users, so it’s likely that the platform will become publicly available in the coming months. Instagram says that to use Flipside, a user must be at least 18 years old, allowing them to create a public and private profile on the same account.
The platform also notes that private messages are not available for business profiles, which is hardly surprising to hear. It’s encouraging to see that Instagram is really focusing on privacy, and the majority of its users will be happy to adopt the new feature if and when it becomes available to everyone.
