ISRO to Revive Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover as Sun Illuminates the Moon’s Surface with Chandrayaan-3
According to reports, today, September 22, marks the potential date for the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to attempt reconnecting with the Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover in order to resume the Chandrayaan-3 mission, which is currently on hold. Both the lander and rover were put into a dormant state in early September after completing a 14-day investigation period, coinciding with the onset of the lunar night. The original mission was designed to operate during this lunar day, a 14-day period without sunlight and extremely cold temperatures. However, the lunar night has now ended, and after another 14 days, sunlight is finally reaching the Moon’s South Pole region.
ISRO is now expected to try to connect to both modules, check if the instruments are still good enough to function, and if the extreme cold temperature hasn’t caused a major failure, try to revive them. “We have put both the lander and the rover into sleep mode because the temperature would drop to minus 120-200 degrees Celsius. From September 20th the sunrise will start on the Moon and by September 22nd we hope to have the solar panel and other things fully charged, so we will try to revive both the lander and the rover “, ISRO’s Center for Space Applications Director Nilesh Desai told PTI.
“If we’re lucky, we’ll recover both the lander and the rover and get more experimental data that will be useful for us to study the lunar surface. We’re looking forward to operations starting on 9/22. We hope we’ll be lucky enough to recover both the lander and rover and get more useful data,” he added.
Chandrayaan-3 mission can start again today
The Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover made several important discoveries at the South Pole of the Moon that amazed people. New studies can reveal various mysteries as well as change previous theories about the Moon. ISRO reports that the Vikram lander captured a seismic event on the Moon, claiming it to be a natural phenomenon. The space agency was also able to test the lander again and it landed safely on the moon twice.
Now India is waiting for Chandrayaan-3 mission to start again today and make even more such mesmerizing discoveries.
