Learn How To Send High-Definition Photos And Videos On WhatsApp
Earlier this year, WhatsApp launched the ability to send photos and videos in HD, solving a long-standing concern of users who wanted to quickly share high-quality photos on the popular chat app. However, many users are still not aware of this feature and how it works because the feature is not enabled by default, as users have to manually select the HD option to send a photo or video in HD quality.
When you select the HD option, WhatsApp will not send a full resolution image or video, but it will still send a compressed media file. Regardless, it’s still better than the standard SD option that the app defaults to.
To send HD photos or videos on WhatsApp:
- First, open the chat of the contact you want to send an HD photo or video to.
- Next, tap the paperclip icon at the bottom and select the photo or video you want to send.
- When you tap to open a media file, WhatsApp now gives you the option to add captions, rotate and crop, add text and stickers, and finally the option to send in HD as well.
- Find the HD option, open it and select “HD quality”. Here you can see that “Standard Quality” is enabled by default.
- When you select HD, you can send a photo or video and it will be sent in high definition.
- In particular, all media files sent in HD format will be marked as HD in WhatsApp chat.
It is important to note that every time you want to send a media file in HD format, you have to repeat this process because WhatsApp cannot be made a default HD option.
Also, it’s been a while since the update was released, but if you still haven’t received the update, it might be possible that your app isn’t updated. So update to the latest version of WhatsApp from Google Play Store and ideally you should have this feature.
