Meta expands the ads on rolls test with a new performance-based payment model
Meta (formerly Facebook) has announced that they are updating and expanding the Ads on Reels test (or monetization program) on Facebook to allow more content creators to monetize their interesting reels.
The company announced that it will start testing the program on Instagram in the coming weeks.
Meta is also developing the program by testing a new payment model that pays content creators based on the performance of public reels, not based on revenue from ads on reels.
“This means creators can focus on creating engaging content while we optimize the ad experience for advertisers and people,” Meta said in a blog post on Tuesday.
The company started testing Ads on Facebook Reels last year to allow creators to monetize their reels.
According to the tech giant, the winnings of the test are determined by the number of games, meaning the better the creators’ rolls, the more they can earn.
“We learned through our tests that performance-related payments better balance everyone’s needs. Many factors outside of creators’ control have traditionally affected their ad revenue, such as how many ads have already been shown to a person viewing their content or whether there is a relevant ad for the viewer,” Meta said.
“The performance-based model allows content creators to focus on content that resonates with their audience and helps them grow; advertisers get to use more ad inventory to reach more people; and people get a more consistent viewing experience with more relevant ads,” it added.
In addition, the company mentioned that all authors invited to the test will be automatically added to the new payment model, and in the coming weeks the authors who previously tested the Ads on Facebook Reels texts will be transferred.
“To check if you’re part of this native Facebook program, visit the Professional Dashboard and go to the Monetization Tools section. If you’re invited, you should see ‘Ads on Reels’ and you can select ‘Set Up’ to start joining,” Meta said.
