Netflix plans to release a new multiplayer game alongside the premiere of Squid Game season 2 later this year.
Netflix is set to add a new game inspired by Squid Game to its expanding lineup. The multiplayer game will be released alongside the second season of the popular South Korean TV show. While details about the game’s style remain scarce, it is expected to mirror the intense children’s games featured in the series.
The show has already spawned several spinoffs for the streaming service. After Season 1 became an international sensation in 2021, Netflix created a virtual reality version as well as a personal pop-up experience in Los Angeles based on the fictional reality show. The company also teamed up with a British production company to create Squid Game: The Challenge, an actual reality TV show that’s thankfully far less deadly than its source material.
Another insight from the quarterly report is how much the importance of ads has grown for Netflix. The ad-supported tier accounts for 45 percent of new registrations in markets where the subscription option is available. The plan has only been available for about 18 months, and its audience has already grown by 34 percent in the second quarter of 2024. it already left Canada and the United Kingdom, with the United States and France next.
