PM Modi Declares End of Outdated Technology at IMC 2023
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 7th India Mobile Congress 2023 in New Delhi. The prime minister told the gathering that “in the changing times of the 21st century, this event has the power to change the lives of millions of people”.
The Prime Minister emphasized the outdated methods of the previous governments, drawing an analogy to a frozen mobile device where the commands did not work.
“After 2014, people stopped using outdated technologies, which made it pointless to change batteries or restart the system,” he said. He reminded that India used to be an importer of mobile phones, while today India has become the second largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world. Noting the lack of vision in electronics manufacturing under previous governments, Prime Minister Modi announced that India today exports about Rs 2 lakh worth of domestically manufactured electronics. He also threw light on Google’s recent announcement to manufacture Pixel phones in India. “Samsung Fold Five and Apple iPhone 15 are already manufactured here,” he added.
Under the rapid pace of technology, the Prime Minister stated that “the future is here and now”. He praised the exhibition organized for the occasion, which offers glimpses of the future of telecommunications, technology and connectivity. Mentioning 6G, artificial intelligence, cyber security, semiconductors, drone or space sector, deep sea, green technology or any other sector, he said: “The future will be completely different and it is fortunate that our young generation is leading the technology revolution.”
Prime Minister Modi reminded that the introduction of 5G in India last year came as a surprise to the rest of the world. He emphasized that India did not stop after the success of 5G and took up the task of bringing it within the reach of every individual. “India moved from 5G deployment to 5G pursuit,” he said. Within a year of the introduction of 5G, the Prime Minister announced the development of 4000 million 5G base stations, covering more than 97 percent of cities and 80 percent of the population.
He also emphasized that the median speed of mobile broadband has increased three times a year. He further added that India moved from 118th position to 43rd position in terms of broadband speed. “India is not only expanding the 5G network in its country, but is also pushing for 6G leadership,” he noted.
The prime minister pointed out about the scam that happened during 2G, that the introduction of 4G during the current government is flawless. He also expressed confidence that India will lead the way in 6G technology.
“We believe in the power of democratization. The benefit of development should extend to every sector and region, everyone should benefit from India’s resources, everyone should lead a dignified life and the benefits of technology should reach everyone. We are working quickly in this direction,” the prime minister said.
