Report: Meta to Release Web Version of Threads Next Week
Meta, the parent company of popular social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, is preparing to introduce Threads, a new web-based version of its app. This move aims to enhance its competitiveness against X (previously known as Twitter) and other social media platforms.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, Meta plans to launch Threads online in the coming week. But remember, these plans are subject to change. Right now, you’ll see a few Threads posts online, but it’s limited because Threads is mostly made for people using it on their phones.
Just last week, the CEO of Threads and Instagram, Adam Mosseri, said that they are testing a web version of Threads at their company. In response to a comment about Threads, Mosseri said, “We’re working on it! We’ve been using an early version at our company for a week or two. But it still needs work before we can let everyone use it.”
Threads has made some updates recently. They added a “following” tab and made it possible to check links with a Mastodon profile. In addition, they are now branding state-controlled media to combat fake news and propaganda.

However, Threads has not been doing as well as Meta had hoped. It was launched to compete with other social media platforms such as “X” and attract users upset by changes made by company owner Elon Musk. At first, Threads was popular, with more than 100 million people using it. But as of August 7, its active user base has dropped to around 10 million.
By comparison, “X” has about 363.7 million monthly users. So while Threads had a good start, it still has a long way to go to catch up with the big players in the social media world.
