Report Suggests iPad Air 6 Could Be the Only iPad Model to Launch in October
The Apple iPad Air 6 may launch in October, and it may be the only updated iPad from this year’s lineup, according to a new Weibo rumor and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Currently, the fifth-generation iPad Air is offered with the Apple M1 chipset and is subject to an upgrade.
As spotted by MacRumors, the Weibo post says, “Only the iPad Air series should be updated this year,” and that the other models in the iPad lineup — “mini” and “Pro” — won’t be updated this year. MacRumors says that the Weibo account sharing this information has a good track record of accurately reporting Apple-related information, but like all rumors, this one should be taken with a grain of salt.
Mark Gurman has also added credence to this update as he thinks that Apple may announce the new iPad Air through a press release and subsequent marketing video rather than holding a full-scale event for it. “I’m not sure they’ll have enough to attract people down to Cupertino to watch the video like they’re doing for this release,” he said, referring to the iPhone 15 launch tomorrow, September 12.
The outgoing iPad Air was last updated almost a year and a half ago, in March 2022, and is due for an update. It’s not clear what Apple might offer with the sixth-generation iPad Air, but since the M2 chipset is here to stay, the iPhone maker could add it to the iPad Air as well — bringing it in line with the more expensive iPad Pro. .
Apple plans to release the iPhone 15 series tomorrow at its Wonderlust event. At the event, the brand is also expected to introduce the next-generation Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch Series 9 and possibly a USB-C charging case for AirPods Pro.
