Telegram adds support for Siri to read and reply to messages
Telegram’s latest beta now supports Siri’s message announcement feature on the headphones. IPhone and iPad users can now use Siri to listen to and respond to Telegram messages. This feature has been rolled out in the Telegram beta app.
Telegram showcasing this feature makes it the first third-party app to enable Apple’s announcement messages with Siri, The 8-Bit reported. So far, only Apple’s Messages & Home app offers this feature. Apple has been making this Siri API available to developers for over a year now. This hands-free mode allows Siri to read an incoming message when their iPhone or iPad is locked. Siri plays a tone first, then announces the sender’s name and reads the messages. Users also have the option to reply to this message using Siri.
This is currently only available to Telegram beta users who have no word on the official rollout yet. IPhone and iPad users can sign up for Telegram’s beta program on TestFlight. iOS 13.2 and later are also required for this feature to work on iPhones and iPads. This feature only works with Apple headphones, including AirPods, AirPods Pro, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, and Beats Solo Pro.
This feature has not yet arrived in other popular messaging apps on iOS. Google Assistant, meanwhile, can read and reply to messages on Telegram, WhatsApp, and even Slack. Google rolled out this feature over a year ago before only supporting its Messages and Hangouts apps.
