Threads App Launches Major Update on Android Amid Twitter Rebranding Confusion
While Elon Musk focuses on rebranding Twitter to X, the Instagram-based Threads has discreetly released a significant Android update. This update addresses a crucial omission on the text-based social media platform by introducing a chronological ‘Following’ tab. Users can now view a separate feed containing posts exclusively from accounts they follow. This highly requested feature has been fulfilled by the developers, satisfying Threads users since the app’s inception.
Before adding this feature, Threads only showed new posts in the original algorithmic feed, which was a combination of posts from accounts you followed and an account the algorithm thought you might be interested in. This was not a chronological feed and became a source of irritation for users who could not control whether they wanted to see posts that were popular but a couple of days old or posts added a few minutes ago.
The new feature was first confirmed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who replied to a message that said, “Can you add the next tab?”, to which he replied, “Ask and you shall receive.”
Threads gets a Next tab
Musk and X CEO Linda Yaccarino are not taking the threat of Threads lightly. Ever since the Meta competitor launched, Musk has been focused on bringing changes to the microblogging platform. Previously, a new video feed was released, after which DM restrictions were added to the platform for free accounts.
Musk also started paying content creators for X, with some of them even claiming to be getting as much as $5,000. In addition, Musk also announced that there are other ways for verified users to earn money, including ads that users view on their tweets and profiles.
And now Musk has rebranded the platform as X, which is touted to be an “all-in-one app” that enhances users’ social media experience.
