Threads, Twitter Alternative, to Launch on July 6
Threads, the Twitter rival developed by Meta, is scheduled to be released on July 6, providing users with a different option from the Elon Musk-led platform.
The Threads app was initially found on the Google Play store in Europe on Monday morning and later appeared on the Apple App Store on Monday night, Forbes reported.
The announcement follows recent controversies surrounding Twitter, including user restrictions and issues with rival Bluesky, founded by Jack Dorsey.
The purpose of the app is to bring communities together to discuss different topics and keep in touch with favorite content creators.
Threads, which combines elements of Instagram and Twitter, is expected to attract both existing Instagram users and new users upon launch.
Meta has positioned the app as a “sanely run” platform, while Twitter faces concerns from advertisers over its association with right-wing figures.
As Musk makes successive changes at Twitter, he has hired a new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who has been relatively quiet on the platform.
In addition, Twitter has announced that Tweetdeck will become a subscription-only feature starting next month.
Charging for TweetDeck, which was previously free and is widely used by businesses and news organizations to monitor content, could boost revenue for Twitter, which has struggled to maintain ad revenue under Musk.
The move comes just days after Musk said both verified and unverified users would have a limit on the number of messages they could read per day “to address extreme data scraping and system manipulation.”
