Using WhatsApp on Your Mac or Windows Computer

Meta, the parent company of the popular instant messaging app WhatsApp, recently released the original WhatsApp app for macOS with new features and improvements. According to the company, users can now make group calls from Mac for the first time, connecting up to 8 people in video calls and up to 32 people in voice calls. They can join a group call after it starts, see call history, and choose whether to receive notifications of incoming calls even when the app is closed.

The Meta-owned app also said the new app has been redesigned to be familiar to Mac users, helping users get more done faster when using WhatsApp on the big screen. They can now easily share files by dragging and dropping into a chat and see more chat history.

How to download

You can download the new WhatsApp app for Mac from the WhatsApp website or the App Store. It is important to note that you should have macOS 11 or higher for WhatsApp on Mac.

To get the app from the website, go to WhatsApp.com on your Mac and click the green download button in the top right corner. On the download page, select the Mac version from the three options – Android, iOS and Mac and start the download.

Once the download is complete, open the file and drag and drop the green WhatsApp file into your Applications folder. After that, go to the Applications folder where you will find the WhatsApp application. Click on it and you can start using WhatsApp on your Mac.

Follow these steps to make group video calls on WhatsApp on Mac

You can manually select group call contacts by first clicking the Call icon in the menu on the left side. Then tap the New Call icon at the top and select New Group Call. You can add a maximum of 8 contacts to a video call or a maximum of 32 contacts to a voice call. Finally, select either “Voice” or “Video” at the bottom of the pop-up window to start the call.

You can also make group video or audio calls from existing groups on WhatsApp. Go to that group chat and tap the New call button. Select the contacts you want, then click either the Video or Call icon to start a group call.

You can also opt for the new call link feature in WhatsApp. It is also available in a Mac version. To create a call link, go to the “Calls” tab in the left panel and click “Create Call Link”. Share this generated link with the people you want to invite to the group call.
