Only verified accounts can vote in Twitter polls starting April 15
CEO Elon Musk has announced that Twitter polls will only be open to verified Twitter accounts starting April 15th. This decision aims to combat the problem of advanced artificial intelligence robot swarms.
He also said that only verified accounts can be in Twitter’s For You recommendations, which show tweets from Twitter accounts.
“Starting April 15th, only verified accounts can be part of Sinulle recommendations. This is the only realistic way to combat advanced AI bot swarms. Otherwise, it’s a hopeless losing battle. Voting requires verification for the same reason…” CEO Musk tweeted.
“That said, it’s OK to have verified bot accounts as long as they follow the terms of service and don’t impersonate people,” he added.
Elon Musk also said Monday that paid verification will increase the cost of bots by 10,000 percent and make it much easier to identify bots over the phone, so paid accounts are the only social media that matters.
“Because modern AI can solve all the ‘prove you’re not a bot’ tests, it’s now trivial to run 100,000 human-like bots for less than a penny per account. Paid verification increases the cost of a bot by 10,000 percent and makes it much easier to identify bots by phone and CC- by clustering,” Musk tweeted.
“The obvious conclusion: social media on a paid account is the only social media that matters,” he added.
Many users expressed their views in response to Musk’s post.
“I’ve noticed that some accounts have like 130,000 followers one day and 90,000 followers the next day… and they keep going up and down. Is it because of bots?”, the user commented.
“We’ve already found a way around this. And it’s automated. And can scale very easily,” another user said.
Meanwhile, Musk has announced that Twitter will remove all old Blue verified checkmarks from both individual users and organizations starting April 1st. Twitter Blue in India costs Rs 9,400 per year for individual users.
