A man claims that ChatGPT saved his dog’s life when a vet couldn’t diagnose the problem

One Twitter user claimed that AI chatbot ChatGPT saved her dog’s life by accurately diagnosing a blood condition that vets were unable to identify.

A user who goes by the name Cooper on Twitter with the handle @peakcooper said that her dog, Sassy, had been diagnosed with the tick-borne disease, but the symptoms worsened despite prescribed treatment.

“#GPT4 saved my dog’s life. When my dog was diagnosed with tick-borne disease, the vet started proper treatment and despite severe anemia, he seemed to be doing relatively well. However, after a few days, things took a turn for the worse,” Cooper wrote in his Twitter post.

“I noticed that his gums were very pale, so we rushed back to the vet. A blood test revealed even more severe anemia, even worse than the first day we arrived. The vet ran more tests to rule out other tick-borne co-infections, but it came back negative,” he added.

Cooper then took his dog back to the vet, but they were unable to provide further diagnosis and advised him to just wait and see how the dog’s condition progressed.

“At this point the dog’s condition got worse and worse and the vet had no idea what it could be. They suggested we wait and see what happens, which was not an acceptable answer for me, so we rushed to another clinic to get a second opinion.”

Additionally, he mentioned that in the meantime, “it occurred to me that medical diagnostics seemed like something that GPT4 could be really good at, so I described the situation in great detail.”

Cooper entered the actual transcribed blood test results from several days and asked for a diagnosis.

While not claiming to be a veterinarian, the AI chatbot suggested that the dog’s blood work and symptoms could indicate immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA).

He then took this prognosis to another vet who confirmed it and began treating the dog appropriately.

Cooper said Sassy has since made an almost full recovery.
