Vistara intends to utilize virtual reality and augmented reality technology for training objectives.
Vistara’s chief, Vinod Kannan, announced on Monday that the airline intends to incorporate virtual reality and augmented reality technologies into specific training exercises for their staff. Kannan stressed the importance of human intelligence, as there are certain situations that cannot be effectively managed by automated systems.
The full-service airline, which celebrates nine years of flying on January 9, already uses chatbots to answer customer queries.
Asked about the airline’s use of artificial intelligence, its CEO Vinod Kannan said that certain things have already been done.
“We have a chatbot. We’re trying to improve what we know about training. We’re also looking at virtual reality, augmented reality. We’re doing some pilots (projects) on that front to see if they can do some models. , especially in the engineering space to see…” he said at a press conference here.
Asked whether AI applications can help reduce staffing costs, Kannan said the answer is “yes and no”, adding that the operator is trying to see how much more self-help can be provided to customers using AI.
According to him, robots can answer some basic customer inquiries, such as questions about flight status and luggage, with the right information and also a little faster. “There will always be a place for human intelligence because there are certain situations that robots cannot handle,” he noted.
Airlines are adopting AI technology as they seek to provide more effortless services, improve efficiency and also reduce costs.
Vistara currently has a fleet of 67 aircraft and flies approximately 320 flights daily.
The airline is a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines and is in the process of being merged with Air India.
