WhatsApp brings two new changes to the Status tab: What to expect
WhatsApp, one of the most popular instant messaging apps around the world, is reportedly revamping its Status tab to include newsletters, offering users a new way to receive updates in the future.
“The private newsletter tool allows users to choose who they want to hear from and follow broadcasters of their choice. We explained that this feature is separate and optional and is available in the Status tab,” WABetaInfo, which follows WhatsApp, reported.
According to the report, the Meta-owned platform is working to tweak the Status tab by introducing two different sections: status and newsletter. As a result of this redesigned section, one of the most important features is the integration of the newsletters you follow directly in the status tab, which will be available in a future update of the application, and the ability to find newsletters by entering a username.
In addition, status updates will be displayed in a horizontal layout in the future, like in Instagram Stories. The report mentioned that the phone numbers of users who create and subscribe to the newsletter are masked and hidden to prevent their identity from being revealed.
Newsletters are displayed chronologically with no hidden priority, currently contain no ads, and have no sign of algorithmic recommendations. In addition, users can always control who they follow and no one else can see who they follow.
A new status tab with newsletters is under development and will be released in a future update of the app, it added.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is rolling out a new “Phone Link” feature that allows users to create a link to join a call on Windows beta. The new feature is available to beta testers in the calls tab.
Users can choose between audio or video call type and copy the link to share it in their WhatsApp chats to invite people to the call. The URL is unique every time someone creates a new call link, so no one can join users’ private calls without their approval.
