WhatsApp Introduces Passkeys Feature For Android Devices
WhatsApp has announced that the application will get support for passwordless login with a password on Android. This means users can log into the app using biometrics such as fingerprints, face or PIN during initial setup.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), WhatsApp said: “Android users can log back in easily and securely with passwords, just your face, fingerprint or PIN to unlock your WhatsApp account.”

Notably, the feature was available to beta testers last month in September, so it was just a matter of when the feature would be available to all users. And of course, it’s now coming to Android users.
This comes after Google recently started asking its users to set passwords for a hassle-free and password-free login.
With more and more apps now using passkeys as a way to log in, the future – where you may never need to use a password again – is coming soon. But until then, apps like WhatsApp, which are used by many people, will continue to add support gradually.
It’s not clear when WhatsApp password support will roll out to iOS users, but now that it’s rolling out to Android, an iOS rollout shouldn’t be too far off.
In related news, WhatsApp is said to be working on implementing a WhatsApp Web feature that could potentially allow users to easily search for messages they’ve sent on a given day. According to WABetaInfo, this feature allows users to select a date on WhatsApp Web from the calendar interface.
