WhatsApp Introduces Search Functionality For Updates Section
The Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly working on a search feature in the Updates tab. This feature allows you to search for status updates, followed channels and other confirmed channels without having to open the channel directory.
“Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.16 update available on the Google Play Store, we noticed that WhatsApp is now working on a search feature in the Updates tab,” WABetaInfo reported.
A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo revealed that the Meta-owned app plans to introduce a search button in the top app bar. This feature allows you to search for status updates and confirmed channels without opening the channel directory.
The report suggested that it will improve the overall user experience of channels, making it significantly easier for users to find and consume content of interest. Enabling this feature is necessary because many users have complained about the new Updates tab.
“Currently, searching for a status update shared by a specific contact is very complicated as the search function was removed with the new tab. Finally, it seems that WhatsApp is listening to user feedback, and a search option will also be added to the new Updates tab,” the report states.
However, it allows users to search for channels they follow, which is a very useful feature, especially when users follow multiple channels, making it easier to find a specific channel. The search feature in the Updates tab is under development and will be available in a future update of the app.
Meanwhile, the meta-owned app is also working on a feature that will control the automatic removal of channel media from your device. The Channels feature allows users to post images, but channel owners can also post links to information and media such as photos and videos.
