WhatsApp to Switch Verification Checkmark Color to Blue from Green
Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly working to replace the green verification mark with a blue one for verified channels and companies.
Verified channels on WhatsApp are marked with a green check mark, which ensures their authenticity. However, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.18 update, we discovered that WhatsApp plans to replace it with another checkmark,” WABetaInfo reported.
A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo revealed that the Meta-owned app plans to replace the green check mark with a blue one. This change also applies to established companies.
“We think this is not that surprising, especially given Mark Zuckerberg’s recent announcement regarding the possibility for companies on WhatsApp to subscribe to the Meta Verified service in the future, which would give them a verification badge and several benefits, such as protection against impersonation and dedicated technical support,” the report said. said.
There is currently little information available about replacing the green check mark with a blue check mark.
The report also suggested that Meta wants to standardize the color of the verification icon across all of its apps, as the verification icon is blue on both Instagram and Facebook.
By changing the current verification icon color to blue, WhatsApp would align the icon with Meta’s branding and create a consistent visual verified identity across other Meta platforms.
It is important to mention that the introduction of the new blue badge does not automatically mean that Meta Verified applies to WhatsApp channels. They may simply be aiming for a consistent ID across all Meta apps. Development of the blue check mark for verified channels and businesses is ongoing and will be included in a future app update.
The messaging app is working on a search feature in the Updates tab. This feature allows you to search for status updates, followed channels and other confirmed channels without having to open the channel directory.
