X Introduces Live Video Spaces for Group Viewing
Social media platform X now allows users to participate in Spaces videos and connect with a group of people. Spaces was introduced back in the days of Twitter, but since the X rebrand, the feature has been designed for live voice chats, as it was designed to be.
But the Elon Musk-owned platform has now confirmed that a live video feature will be available on X Spaces, which is basically a new version of Periscope that Twitter offered its users many years ago.
A lot of people thought Musk was actually going to bring Periscope back to art, but a new update this week suggests that’s probably never going to happen. X Spaces has allowed people to participate in an audio session where one person speaks while others can only listen.
Demand for these platforms rose during the pandemic when Clubhouse and other platforms tried their luck but slowly faded away. X brings live video to Spaces that may be of interest to regular Spaces attendees.
X Spaces Live Video Feature: How it works
X has offered the Spaces video feature on the iOS app until now, and we didn’t see the option available on Android or even the web version.
When a person creates a new Spaces session, X will show them the option to enable video, which the session host can do. A person can start a session using the phone’s front or back camera and even change the orientation between landscape and portrait in the feed.
The ability to enable video and use the camera in Spaces is only available to the session host, which makes sense, rather than having everyone tune in via video, which isn’t necessary in a live session.
