You can access messages through the Inbox folder of the Facebook application
Meta would like to remind you that the Facebook app is still very popular and is used by millions. And then it says now you can access the message box through a social networking app. The funny thing is, Facebook had the option for several years, but then the company decided it needed another app just to show you messages, and forced many to download the Messenger app.
But the platform has now made a U-turn by offering a message inbox back to the Facebook app. We’re testing people’s ability to use their Messenger inbox in the Facebook app, and we’ll see that we expand that testing soon,” Meta stated in a post this week. So why is the change happening?
Meta says that adding this to Facebook will help its efforts to discover and share content. It has nothing to do with the supposed decline of Facebook, which continues to lose its relevance among other social media apps and the age of short videos.
The company claims to have reached the milestone of two billion daily active users, which is a lot, but the growth of the platform has definitely declined over the years.
Either way, we hope Meta decides to make this change permanent and not get a new app in the future just to get people to download them for messaging.
Meta was born out of Facebook when the social networking app was plagued with user privacy and data protection issues, the biggest event of which was the Cambridge Analytica fiasco. Meta was also created so that Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp could come under a parent company, just like Alphabet did with Google.
Market trends have changed, as people consume more videos than text messages. Meta continues to use its power to cross-integrate features, the latest being Status on WhatsApp, which works like Instagram Stories. But messages will continue to be a useful feature for millions.
