YouTube to Introduce Feature That Allows Users to Search for Songs by Humming
There must have been times when you’ve had a song stuck in your head, a song you’ve heard before – but now you can’t remember the name or the lyrics – leaving you restless on your eardrums. While Android already allows you to search for songs by humming, Google is bringing similar functionality to YouTube as well.
In an official support document, Google notes that YouTube tests people’s ability to find songs on YouTube by “smiling or recording the song that’s currently playing.”
However, the feature is currently being tested “experimentally,” meaning it’s available to a small group of users — specifically, those using YouTube on Android. This feature is currently not available for iOS users and it remains to be seen when YouTube will roll out this feature to users at large.
Those with the feature can change the YouTube audio search to a new song search option. After that, hum or Record the song you are looking for, holding the recording for at least 3 seconds, so that the song can be recognized.
“Once a song is identified, you will be redirected to relevant official music content, user-generated videos and/or shorts featuring the searched song in the YouTube app,” YouTube notes.
Google already introduced this function in 2020, so you can search for an earworm stuck in your head by humming with the help of Google Assistant and the Google Search application. Google explains that it uses machine learning to identify songs based on your hum and find potential matches.
