Apple Brings Music, TV, and Device Apps to Windows, Potentially Marking the End of iTunes
Apple is finally bringing its Apple Music, Apple Devices and Apple Music apps to Windows PC. These apps have been in preview for a while now, but they’re finally being released as stable Windows apps, potentially ending iTunes addiction for iPhone users.
“On Windows 10 and later, you can access music, video content, and Apple devices in their own apps: the Apple Music app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple Devices app. If your computer doesn’t support these apps, you can continue to use iTunes for Windows,” Apple said.
As MacRumors discovered, these apps now offer Windows users a Mac-like experience where all apps are separate and not part of Macs.
These apps were released as previews in January 2023 and so far Apple has been updating them since their release.
As the name suggests, the Apple Music app on Windows gives users access to their iTunes library and even their purchases. In addition, Apple Music allows users to play movies and TV shows that were in their iTunes.
And of course, you can use Apple’s streaming services on both Apple Music and TV if you download these apps to Windows. Apple also notes that “when you download the Apple Music app, Apple TV app, and Apple Devices app, you won’t see your music or video content in iTunes.” Additionally, users can’t “use iTunes to manually sync and manage your iPhone or iPad. iTunes only lets you access your podcasts and audiobooks.”
Then there’s also the Apple Devices app, designed for iPhone or iPad users who use Windows devices to back up, update, and restore them.
These apps must be used on Windows 10 and above, and all three apps must be installed in order to use them. Second, the iTunes library should be kept in place because they are used by Apple Music and Apple TV.
