WhatsApp is rolling out a new Keep in Chat feature: Here’s how it works
Good news for WhatsApp users around the world, the popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta has launched a new ‘Keep in Chat’ feature that allows users to keep certain messages even after the Disappearing Messages feature is enabled.
This feature is available to some users who install the latest WhatsApp updates for iOS, Android and Desktop, and will roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
“Today we’re introducing Keep in Chat so you can keep it for later, with a special superpower for the sender. We believe that if you’ve sent a message, you can choose whether other chat participants can keep it for later,” WhatsApp said in a blog post.
Thanks to the Disappearing Messages feature, conversations are automatically deleted after a certain period of time. While this provides an extra layer of privacy, it can also make it difficult for users to stay on top of important messages. Using the option to keep a message in a conversation, users can now save certain disappearing messages for later reference.
According to WhatsApp, the sender is notified and given the right to veto the decision when someone keeps the message from disappearing. If the sender chooses not to keep the message, it will be deleted when the timer expires. This option gives the sender complete control over how their message is sent.
Messages that have not been kept from disappearing will be marked with a bookmark icon and will be listed in the new “Saved Messages” section available in the chat details. This allows users to easily access messages that they have chosen to keep.
It is important to note that if the screenshot is taken from WhatsApp for Android, this feature is not exclusive to this platform as it is also available for some users on WhatsApp for iOS and Desktop. As announced in the official blog post, the ability to prevent messages from disappearing will be rolled out globally to all users in the coming weeks.
