Improve Your Video Sharing Experience with WhatsApp’s Upcoming Features

WhatsApp has made a significant advancement by enabling Android and iOS beta testers to send high-definition (HD) photos. This notable development is particularly remarkable as WhatsApp has traditionally compressed image quality to conserve data and storage. Expanding on this enhancement, the platform is presently experimenting with the capability to send HD quality videos. Although the feature is currently in its beta stage, a limited number of Android users can already test it.

Improved video quality in WhatsApp

According to WABetaInfo, the new video functionality, like the option to send HD images, includes an HD button in the app’s drawing editor. Before sending a video, users will now see a visible HD button on top of the message box. When you tap this button, two video quality options will appear: standard quality and HD (High Definition) quality.

By default, videos are sent in standard quality, so WhatsApp compresses them from the original format. On the other hand, choosing HD allows users to send videos in higher quality, albeit slightly compressed. While the HD option may not offer the exact original quality, it offers a much better video experience. For example, a normal quality video can be 416 x 880 pixels and 6.3 MB in size, while an HD version is 608 x 1296 pixels and 12 MB in size.

Data and storage management

Given WhatsApp’s focus on fast messaging, it’s understandable that sending large files can lead to longer wait times and increased data usage. Hence, the default setting remains at standard quality and users have to manually select the HD option every time they send a video on WhatsApp. This reflects the process users are already familiar with when sending HD images.

Using the feature

The latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.14.10 includes this exciting new feature. For WhatsApp beta participants who upgrade to the latest version will get the HD video sending feature.

With this upcoming improvement, WhatsApp users can enjoy better video quality without sacrificing too much data or storage space. As the feature progresses through beta testing, it won’t be long before HD quality videos are available to all users.
