Pixel 8 Series May Receive Updated Camera UI in 2021
Google Pixel 8 phones could finally see a major change this year. We already know about the hardware information of the new Pixel 8 series, which will be released in the next few months, but now a new report hints at a major overhaul of the Pixel’s camera interface. The last major change to the camera interface was in 2019, so news of further updates is welcome.
Pixel phones have evolved with their imaging technology, but they’re just as reliable when it comes to video, which is now reflected in the camera interface with different mode switches for photo and camera. So it’s likely that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will offer different modes that can be used to capture stills and videos.
Another big difference you may notice in the camera interface is the placement of the Gallery and camera toggle buttons, which are now in line with other Android smartphones. You have the gallery option on the left, while the back-to-front camera switch is on the right.
Speaking of videos, the Pixel 8 camera interface can also simplify the use of different stabilization modes when shooting a photo or video. The main settings also take into account new features that Google could bring to the new Pixel 8 series, especially the Pro model, which usually gets a triple rear camera module.
Google has usually announced Pixel phones around October in recent years, and we expect a similar timeline for the Pixel 8 series launch as well. The new Pixel phones are set to be redesigned to be more curved than the Pixel 7 series, and will also be offered with new hardware specs.
Google could continue to use the Tensor chip in the Pixel phones, and the third-gen SoC will hopefully be better with power management. The Pixel 8 Pro could have a thermometer-like feature placed next to the rear cameras. Android 14 could be released publicly in the Pixel 8 range.
