Meta and LG Could Join Forces to Compete With Apple’s Vision Pro
Meta has been making VR headsets for some time with the Quest series. The “Quest,” which began with the acquisition of Oculus, represents an ongoing effort to double down on its Metaverse goals. Now it looks like Meta could be teaming up with LG to develop a new headset that could directly compete with Apple’s 2024 Vision Pro headset.
This development comes via South Korean Maeil Business Newspaper via UploadVR. The publication suggests that if the collaboration materializes, we can expect to see LG-made headphones with LG screens, LG batteries, and other LG Innotek components. According to the report, the first high-end product from this partnership is expected in 2025 and could cost more than $2,000.
The device, which may or may not be called “Meta Quest 4 Pro,” is being offered alongside a number of other headsets available at various price points. One such headset could be the $499 Meta Quest 3.
This is not the first time that Meta has collaborated with a company that has expertise in hardware. Previously, Meta had partnered with Xiaomi to create the Oculus Go. So this partnership may not be a far-fetched idea. However, it’s important to note that this is a rumor for now and should be taken with a grain of salt until anything is confirmed by Meta or LG.
As for the Apple Vision Pro, the Meta is considered a direct competitor to its Quest line. When introducing Vision Pro at WWDC 2023 earlier this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that Apple’s Vision Pro doesn’t bring anything new that Meta hasn’t already explored, and that they don’t have “such magical solutions.” to any limitations of the laws of physics.”
Apple claims the Vision Pro is a “spatial computer” designed to bridge the digital and physical worlds while remaining aware of the user’s surroundings. The Apple Vision Pro is expected to be available next year in 2024 and will retail at $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2,88,000) in the US.
