OpenAI Aims to Compete Against Google with its AI-Powered Web Search
OpenAI is heavily involved in AI development with all sorts of publicly available tools, including the popular ChatGPT. OpenAI has a strong partnership with Microsoft, which could help a company using the platform build its own search tool. A report by The Information suggests that OpenAI is competing in Google’s search field, and its advanced AI expertise is likely to give it an edge over the existing duo.
Search is very useful for people, and ChatGPT would allow OpenAI to expand its reach and subscriber base to more regions. It’s possible that OpenAI could play the big game and offer AI search as a standalone option and provide it as part of a ChatGPT Plus subscription.
The only interesting aspect of OpenAI’s search is that it uses Microsoft’s Bing as the basis of its search tool, the report adds. Both companies have a tight equation and have worked well together so far.
OpenAI has received $10 billion in funding without giving it any significant say in its operations thanks to its silent seat on the board. Bing has used ChatGPT, which is also integrated into users’ Edge browser. AI basically feeds off existing data to train itself from basic information available on the internet.
OpenAI hasn’t officially shared plans for its search tool, but it’s likely that we might see some development in that regard as the company races to build new AI use cases. The company unveiled Sora, which turns text into life videos, and some social media teased examples that have everyone both excited and shocked at the rate at which AI is growing.
