Report Suggests AirPods Pro May Not Receive Other Hardware Upgrades Besides USB-C
Apple is expected to announce a new AirPods Pro case model with USB-C support during its Wonderlust event on September 12. However, Mark Gurman says in his PowerON newsletter that it’s the only new feature the new AirPods Pro case offers. is a switch to USB-C without additional hardware, as MacRumors discovered.
For experts, Apple is expected to fully implement USB-C starting with the new iPhone 15 series in accordance with the new EU standards. A big change from Apple is expected to be switching the AirPods Pro to support USB-C, allowing users to charge both their iPhone and AirPods with a single cable. Currently, all versions of Apple AirPods have a Lightning connector.
Gurman believes the AirPods Pro will be the first in the AirPods lineup to switch to USB-C, a change that will eventually make its way to other models, such as regular AirPods and the more expensive AirPods Max.
iOS 17 software features arrive
The second-generation AirPods Pro — while Apple may not have big plans to bring new hardware features — are getting new software-based features thanks to iOS 17’s new quality-of-life updates. With this update, AirPods Pro receives features like Adaptive Audio that balances transparency and active noise cancellation, conversation awareness, new mute controls, the ability to activate Siri by saying “Siri” instead of the full “Hey Siri,” and more.
In addition to the AirPods Pro USB-C Switch, Apple is also releasing its new iPhone 15 lineup, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra, and vanilla iPhone 15 models. In addition, the Apple Watch Series 9 and the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra are also expected to be present at the event.
