Samsung Galaxy Watch to Monitor Health Conditions
Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch will introduce a new health-oriented function that can provide vital notifications to users. The company has received approval to include an irregular heart rate monitoring feature, which may alert individuals to potential health concerns and prompt them to seek medical attention promptly.
The feature is enabled through the Samsung Health app, but you’ll need hardware to run side-by-side, which is possible with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series.
Samsung’s approval comes through the FDA and the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Samsung will offer this feature later this year in a total of 13 markets, including Argentina, the United States, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Korea, Georgia, and Costa Rica. There’s no sign of India in this list, and even most of Europe is missing, suggesting that this is just a phase 1 rollout of Samsung’s new health feature.
From the looks of it, the new heart rate monitoring tool will only be available to Samsung users, which is hardly surprising. Samsung is hoping to have an Apple-like impact with its new health feature, which could also become the norm on Android devices in the coming years.
The biggest benefit of this new feature is that anyone wearing a watch that is compatible with the tool can receive a warning about the potential risk of stroke or heart failure. Apple Watch has been a savior for many years, helping people avoid accidents with its unique health tool, and now Samsung could help people with such problems as well.
The irregular heart rate monitor is combined with the ECG function of the Galaxy Watch 6 series, which monitors your heart rhythm and alerts the user when it receives an irregular heartbeat. Such devices are convenient, but doctors are the main source of care and consultation, so if you notice an irregular heartbeat, contact your doctor immediately.
We’ll hear more about this feature and its compatibility when the Galaxy Watch 6 series launches next month at Galaxy Unpacked.
